A proposed project to deepen and widen the entrance channel to the Port of Palm Beach that has received widespread opposition. Now the Army Corps of Engineers is behind it. They signed off on a report that outlines the major national benefits of the project including transportation cost savings and increased economic efficiency of the port. The inlet’s primary problems include economic inefficiencies because it doesn't meet current world fleet requirements. According to the Palm Beach Post, the Palm Beach Civic Association, the Florida Wildlife Federation, the Sierra Club and the Center for Biological Diversity have said the expansion threatens endangered species, fishing, recreation and homeowners around the Lake Worth Lagoon.
