A student at FAU has admitted that he falsely reported being robbed on the Boca Raton campus last week.

Florida Atlantic University officials say 25 year old Vincent Phillips had originally claimed that five men forced him at gunpoint to drive them to an atm and then to Broward, where they beat him and left him, but he has since admitted that was all made up to cover up the fact that he was attacked while paying off a drug debt.

Campus officials tell parents of students that FAU is a safe campus, but students need to remain vigilant because other events have occured and can occur. University police are working with the state attorney's office to decide whether to file charges against Phillips.
