The resignation of Florida Atlantic University's football Head Coach Carl Pelini had nothing to do with the Owls' 2-6 record this season.

FAU Athletics Director Pat Chun announced on Wednesday afternoon that Pelini and Defensive Coordinator Pete Rekstis stepped down, effective immediately, after they were confronted by Chun regarding allegations that the two were at a social event recently, where marijuana was being smoked.

Pelini issued a statement in which he apologized for exercising poor judgement.

FAU officials say no students were involved and it did not occur on campus.

Offensive Coordinator Brian Wright will take over as interim head coach as the Owls face Tulane this weekend.
